Alumni Football Game (2016)

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving 2016, a new tradition was born!  Alums came back to play the first annual Alumni Game on Buchanan Field.  With music playing over the speakers, the newly installed lights,  four referees, and two teams, all had a great time reliving glory days.  Family fun was a big part of the day as was distribution of the awesome "G Alumni" shirts.  The score was tied at halftime 21-21, but the "White" team came out on top

Game 10 vs St. John’s (2016)

The Gonzaga varsity football team won the 92nd Game of the Modern Era against St. John's in front of about 8,000 fans on November 5th. After allowing the Cadets to take a 14-10 lead early in the second quarter, the Eagles took to the air scoring on two long pass plays to lead 24-14 at half. Game 8 – Senior Day vs Good Counsel (2016)

Game 6 – vs St. Mary’s Ryken (2016)

Gonzaga 38 Ryken 6, final. The 2nd conference win featured a stellar performance by Sam Brown who completed 15 of 22 passes for 263 yards and 1 touchdown. Tyree Randolph had another big day on the ground as he scampered for 157 yards and 4 touchdowns.  The defense put together its most complete performance of the season with strong contributions from defensive linemen, #55 Malik Bridgeman (’18), #41 Sean Johns (’19) and #22 William Lyke (’18),

Game 5 – vs McNamara (2016)

Following the Prep game, the Eagles faced a talented McNamara team in the 1st WCAC contest of the season. The game featured strong performances by #5 defensive end Joseph Wete (’19) who recorded 5 tackles, 2 sacks and a pass break-up, while #29 K Marco Kemp (’19) was a perfect 4 for 4 on point after attempts and nailed his 1st field goal of the season from 29 yards.  The offense was led once again by Randolph who ran for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Game 4 – vs Georgetown Prep (2016)

Gonzaga 21 Georgetown Prep 20, final. The Jesuit Gridiron Classic was one for the ages!  The Eagles won its 5th in a row and 38th in the 66 game series that goes back to 1891.  The Eagles were down 17-0 in the 2nd half and came from behind to capture a 21-20 victory in front of a capacity crowd in North Bethesda.  #8 LB Captain Mitchell Johns (’17) led the stingy defense performance with 8 tackles and 2 interceptions, while running back Tyree

Game 3 – vs Avalon (2016)

Gonzaga 40 Avalon 16, final. After returning from Florida, the team had a decisive 40-16 victory Avalon in the 1st ever match-up between the 2 schools.  #4 LB Loic Sangwa (’19) recorded 10 tackles and a defensive touchdown while #43 DE Roger Mellado (‘17) spearheaded the defense with a strong performance.  Punter #28 John Marshall (’19) had extraordinary performance on special teams with a 51 yard blast and another punt downed on the 1 yard
